Trying to become better at everything guarantees mediocrity at best
In many meetings, I have observed senior management's inability to make clear decisions regarding prioritization and resource allocation. It often seems that every initiative is treated as equally important, leaving executives reluctant or unable to make the tough decisions to cut or freeze lower-priority initiatives. This indecisiveness consistently leads to mediocre outcomes at best.
In the words of Felix Oberholzer-Gee in his book Better Simpler Strategy (2021): "... Any attempt to get better at everything virtually guarantees mediocrity... By spreading scarce resources across many value drivers, you make it impossible for your organization to achieve true excellence."
Remember, strategy is fundamentally about focusing your organization's efforts on the key actions that will drive the expected results.
